NYSC Denies Ransom Payment for Abducted Prospective Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management has refuted claims of ransom payment for the release of prospective corps members abducted in Zamfara State. The Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, clarified that the combined efforts of security agents and the NYSC facilitated the release of four out of the eight kidnapped individuals. He emphasized that neither the Akwa Ibom State Government nor any entity paid any ransom.

Megwa warned the public against fraudulent appeals for financial donations, cautioning parents, family members, and the governments of Akwa Ibom and Zamfara States not to fall prey to such schemes. The NYSC is shouldering the medical bills of the released corps members and remains committed to their welfare and security. The management acknowledged ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining abducted individuals.

The statement also disassociated the NYSC from circulated account numbers seeking financial contributions, reiterating its dedication to the safety of corps members and collaboration with security agencies.
