Usyk Suspended Following Thrilling Victory Over Fury

Oleksandr Usyk, the heavyweight boxing champ, has been temporarily suspended from boxing after his intense match with Tyson Fury.

During their big fight, Usyk almost knocked Fury down in the ninth round, but Fury managed to stay up with the help of the ropes. The referee had to step in and count, and even though Fury made it to the end of the match, he lost by a split decision, marking his first-ever defeat.

After the match, Usyk went to the hospital for a check-up, but he got the all-clear, despite Fury’s claim that he broke Usyk’s jaw.

The British Boxing Board of Control suspended Usyk until June 2 because of the injuries he got from fighting Fury. However, Fury doesn’t face any suspension on his record.

This suspension won’t really affect Usyk’s career much because he was planning to take a break anyway. He had been training hard for nine months leading up to the fight, which was originally supposed to happen in December but got pushed back to February and then finally to May.

“I don’t want to think about boxing now,” said Usyk, who attended the post-fight press conference with his daughter Yelizaveta’s Eeyore cuddly toy. “My camp started in September 2023 and I worked for nine months.

“I missed Happy New Year, I missed my son’s birthday, I missed my other son’s birthday, I missed my daughter’s birthday and then the birth of my daughter. I also missed family holidays. I was only focused on this fight. Now I’m happy and I want to go back home.”

Usyk’s reign as the undisputed champion is set to be short-lived, with the IBF preparing to strip him of their title due to his contractual obligations for a rematch with Fury in October, which prevents him from facing mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic.
