NFF Unveils Finidi George as Super Eagles Head Coach

Former Ajax star Finidi George has been officially unveiled as the new head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed the details of his appointment during a ceremony at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, where he signed his contract in the presence of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh.

Alongside George, his former Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi will serve as one of the assistants, along with Benjamin James from Germany, Mehmet Ozturk as an analyst, and Chima Onyeike as a fitness trainer.

Olatunji Baruwa returns as the goalkeeper trainer. There are reports suggesting that Finidi George has been given a one-year contract to lead the Super Eagles through their next campaign, as shared by football analyst Osasu Obayiuawana.

Finidi’s immediate focus is on the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic. He expressed confidence in the team’s abilities and called for media support in achieving their goals.

This appointment follows Finidi’s interim coaching role during international friendlies against Ghana and Mali, and he replaces Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro, who departed after the last African Cup of Nations.

Finidi George, now focusing solely on coaching after leaving his post at Enyimba, emphasized the importance of winning upcoming matches to set a positive tone for the team’s future endeavors.
