Asisat Oshoala, the renowned Nigerian striker, bids farewell to Barcelona Femini and embraces a new chapter with NWSL’s Bay FC, marking a significant transfer in her illustrious career. The announcement came jointly from both clubs on Thursday.

Oshoala, 29, has inked a contract with Bay FC through 2026, featuring an option to extend for the 2027 season. Having been a pivotal part of Barcelona since 2019, the move to the San Francisco Bay Area-based expansion team aligns with her quest for new challenges.

Bay FC’s General Manager, Lucy Rushton, expressed enthusiasm about adding a player of Oshoala’s caliber to their roster. Rushton highlighted Oshoala’s top-class mentality, experience, and goal-scoring prowess as valuable assets that will contribute to the team’s success.

The departure from Barcelona, where Oshoala achieved remarkable success, was marked by an emotional Instagram post. She acknowledged the honor of wearing the Barcelona Femini jersey, expressing gratitude for the trophies, accolades, and the relationships built during her five-year tenure.

During her time with Barcelona, Oshoala scored 107 goals in 149 appearances, leaving an indelible mark as the club’s fourth-highest goalscorer in history. Her achievements include four Liga F titles, two UEFA Women’s Champions Leagues, and three Copas de la Reina.

Oshoala’s impact extended beyond statistics; she became the first African woman to win the UEFA Champions League in 2021 and scored in the Champions League final in 2019. Her new journey with Bay FC, set to commence in the 2024 NWSL season, adds a fresh chapter to her already storied career.

As Oshoala embarks on this new adventure, her legacy at Barcelona Femini remains cherished, with the club expressing gratitude for her significant contributions. The Super Falcons forward, a six-time African Player of the Year, looks forward to making her mark in the NWSL, bringing her skills and winning pedigree to Bay FC’s quest for success.
