In a tragic incident in Fina village, under Gwada ward, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, bandits struck, leaving two villagers dead and seven others abducted.
The horrifying event unfolded around 1 am on Tuesday when bandits descended upon the small village, unleashing terror with sporadic gunfire. During the attack, two villagers lost their lives, and three others sustained gunshot wounds, requiring immediate hospitalization for treatment.
Malam Jafar Anaba, a resident and community leader, sadly confirmed the incident. He revealed that one victim tragically died on the spot, while the second person succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
“It was terrible because the incident happened at night. They killed two people in the village. The first person died on the spot, while the second person died at the hospital. Seven others were abducted,” he said.
The community leader said the injured victims were receiving treatment, adding that the seven abducted persons include women and children.
He stated that the bandits seized several motorcycles belonging to the villagers during the attack.
He said the remaining 14 captives among the 30 villagers abducted in a nearby village of Unguwar Liman under the same Gwada ward were still in captivity since their abduction on December 11, 2023.
There has been no official reaction from the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, on the latest incident at Fina village.
Calls put through to his phone failed to connect and he had yet to reply to a text message sent to him.
The bandit attack highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Kaduna State. As the affected villagers grapple with the aftermath, this unfortunate event underscores the need for concerted efforts to address and curb such violent incidents in the region.
