Usher, Victoria Monét, and Tyla Win Big at 2024 BET Awards

The 2024 BET Awards, held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, saw significant wins for Usher, Victoria Monét, and Tyla. Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the four-hour event featured performances by Lauryn Hill, Will Smith, Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice, Childish Gambino, and more.

A highlight of the night was the tribute to Usher, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Childish Gambino started the tribute with a rendition of “U Don’t Have to Call,” followed by Keke Palmer’s performance of “U Make Me Wanna,” and appearances by Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, Tinashe, Victoria Monét, Teyana Taylor, and Latto. L.A. Reid and Babyface presented the award to Usher, who expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt speech.

Lauryn Hill also had a strong night, performing tracks from her debut album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” and bringing out her son YG Marley for “Survival.” She closed her set with “Fu-Gee-La,” joined by Wyclef Jean.

Megan Thee Stallion opened the show with a dramatic performance referencing her new album “Megan,” while Taraji P. Henson delivered a spirited rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” Victoria Monét performed her hit “On My Mama” and new single “Alright,” with Kaytranada on the decks.

Other standout performances included Sexy Redd, Tanner Adell, Doechii, GloRilla, Shaboozey with J-Kwon, Latto, Tyla with Skillibeng and Gunna, and Ice Spice previewing her upcoming album “Y2K.”

The event celebrated Black excellence in music, film, television, and sports. Drake led with seven nominations, followed by Nicki Minaj with six. Usher took home the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist award in addition to his Lifetime Achievement Award.
