Tems Solidifies Global Superstar Status with Debut Album 'Born In The Wild'

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, has released her highly anticipated debut album, “Born In The Wild,” via RCA Records/Since 93’. The 18-track album, featuring collaborations with Asake and J. Cole, showcases Tems’ unique blend of Afrobeats and R&B.

Tracks like “Born In The Wild,” “Special Baby,” “Burning,” “Wickedest,” and “Get It Right” highlight her growth as an artist. The album also includes previously released singles “Me & U” and “Love Me Jeje.”

Tems’ rapid rise to fame is marked by her Grammy win in 2023, making her the first female Nigerian musician to achieve this honor. Her music has found a global audience, with significant streams from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries. Her core listeners are predominantly young, reflecting the energetic and relatable nature of her music.

The album, delayed from its initial 2023 release due to a severe illness, is Tems’ first solo output since 2021, aside from her cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” for the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack.

Tems began her musical journey with her self-produced debut single “Mr Rebel” in 2018, followed by the hit “Try Me” in 2019. Her collaboration on Wizkid’s “Essence” in 2020 brought her international recognition. In February 2023, she won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her role in Future’s hit “Wait for U,” featuring Drake.

Tems’ debut album release is accompanied by a world tour starting in Europe on June 12 and concluding in Australia on November 15. “Born In The Wild” solidifies her status as a global superstar, showcasing her ability to connect with fans across different cultures.
