Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance addressed criticism over his 2021 remark about “childless cat ladies” during an interview on “The Megyn Kelly Show” on SiriusXM. Vance emphasized that the comment was sarcastic and meant to highlight what he sees as the Democratic Party’s anti-family and anti-child stance.
Vance explained that his criticism was not directed at people without children but at the societal pressure against having children, which he discussed with his wife, Usha. He argued that having children changes one’s perspective and criticized Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, for allegedly prioritizing policies that harm families.
Vance reiterated his support for in-vitro fertilization (IVF), despite voting against a Democratic bill to protect and expand access to fertility treatments. He cited personal connections to families who benefited from IVF and criticized Democrats for their handling of the country’s low birth rate and immigration policies.
Despite his clarifications, Vance’s comments continue to draw backlash from many, including actor Jennifer Aniston and various Democrats, who accuse him of demeaning women’s choices and attacking those struggling with infertility.
