Karl-Erivan Haub, a German-American billionaire presumed dead after vanishing during a mountain hike in the Swiss Alps in 2018, has reportedly been discovered alive in Moscow, living with a Russian mistress named Veronika Ermilova.
Haub, aged 58 at the time of his disappearance, was training for a ski mountaineering race on the Matterhorn mountain when he went missing. Despite extensive search efforts, including alpine rescuers and helicopters, no trace of him was found, leading to a declaration of death by a German court in 2021.
However, a recent investigation by German broadcaster RTL suggests otherwise. The probe alleges that Haub, now 64, has been leading a secret life in Moscow with Ermilova. The investigation uncovered significant phone contact between Haub and Ermilova just before his disappearance, raising suspicions of a planned staged death.
Veronika Ermilova, said to be connected to a Russian event agency, is also suspected of having ties to Russia’s FSB intelligence service. The investigation highlights overlapping travel patterns and meetings between Haub and Ermilova in various locations, hinting at a deeper connection beyond a romantic relationship.
RTL journalist Liv von Boetticher suggested that Haub’s disappearance may be linked to his business dealings in Russia, speculating that he could have been acting as an “influence agent” for Russian interests in Germany. This theory raises questions about Haub’s motives and the circumstances surrounding his mysterious disappearance.
The revelation has sparked legal scrutiny, with Haub’s brother Christian facing an investigation for potential false statements made under oath regarding his brother’s death. The case underscores the intrigue and complexities surrounding the disappearance of a prominent figure in the business world, leaving many unanswered questions about Haub’s true fate and motivations.
