Barbara Pierce Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush, has made a surprising endorsement by backing Vice President Kamala Harris just days ahead of Election Day. Bush, who is also the granddaughter of President George H.W. Bush, joined the Harris campaign in Pennsylvania over the weekend to knock on doors and connect with voters in the politically significant swing state.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Bush said she felt “inspired” by the opportunity to speak with voters on critical issues, particularly women’s rights. “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights,” she told People magazine after campaigning with the Harris team.
This endorsement underscores Bush’s recent pattern of crossing party lines. In 2017, she spoke at a Planned Parenthood event in Texas, voicing support for the organization’s advocacy efforts under former President Trump’s administration.
Barbara’s father, George W. Bush, has chosen not to endorse any candidate this election cycle. However, the Harris campaign has attracted support from other prominent Republican figures, including former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney, who have been working to connect with suburban Republican voters on Harris’s behalf.
Barbara Bush’s endorsement reflects a broader trend of prominent Republicans backing Harris, including Susan Ford Bales, daughter of President Gerald Ford, who recently declared her support.
