Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old man from Hawaii, has been arrested for an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 15, while Trump was golfing at Trump International Golf Course.
According to law enforcement, Routh was armed with an AK-47-style rifle and was spotted near the fourth or fifth hole, roughly 400–500 yards away from Trump. A Secret Service agent stationed nearby saw Routh hiding in the shrubbery by the fence. The agent confronted him, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Routh abandoned the rifle and fled in a black Nissan SUV.
A witness photographed the fleeing vehicle, helping authorities track Routh. He was apprehended later in a neighboring county without the weapon. At the scene, police found the rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera that had been set up by the fence.
Routh, who had previously posted online about his involvement in the war in Ukraine, was taken into custody. Investigators are still working to determine his motive, and authorities confirm that no other suspects are involved in the case. Trump was unharmed during the incident.
