NASA has postponed the return of the Boeing Starliner spacecraft carrying astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore from the International Space Station (ISS) due to technical issues. The astronauts, aboard the Starliner for a crewed mission, faced challenges including helium leaks and thruster failures during their stay.
Originally scheduled for June 14, the return date was first pushed to June 26, and now a new date has yet to be determined as NASA continues to assess the spacecraft’s readiness.
Sunita Williams made history as the first female astronaut on the inaugural crewed flight of the Starliner, which encountered technical setbacks including thruster failures and gas leaks. Despite these challenges, Williams and Wilmore successfully docked with the ISS after launch on June 5, greeted by fellow crew members for their mission.
NASA is now focusing on resolving technical issues before planning the Starliner’s return journey, expected after scheduled spacewalks on June 24 and July 2. Williams, known as “Suni” in space, remains in good spirits, supported by a network of family and colleagues during her extended mission aboard the ISS.
