Victor Osimhen’s much-anticipated transfer to Chelsea has collapsed at the last moment, leaving the Napoli striker’s future in limbo. The Nigerian international was close to sealing a move to Stamford Bridge on deadline day, but talks broke down just two hours before the transfer window closed, according to transfer expert Fabrice Hawkins.
Osimhen, 25, had reportedly demanded a wage package of over £300,000 per week, which Chelsea were initially willing to discuss. However, the negotiations stalled, and Chelsea decided to abandon the deal, effectively ruling out the move. The striker will now remain in Naples unless Napoli receives a significant bid from Saudi Arabia before their transfer window closes on Monday.
To add to the uncertainty, Osimhen’s potential move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli also fell apart. The club opted to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney instead, leaving Osimhen with few options. Meanwhile, his relationship with Napoli has reportedly deteriorated significantly. If no substantial bid comes in from Saudi Arabia, there is a risk that Osimhen could be sidelined from Napoli’s first-team squad.
For Chelsea, who were active on deadline day with other deals involving Raheem Sterling’s loan move to Arsenal and Jadon Sancho’s loan arrival from Manchester United, the collapse of the Osimhen transfer marks a disappointing end to their pursuit of the striker. Chelsea fans may feel a sense of relief now that the transfer window is closed, allowing manager Enzo Maresca to focus on integrating his current squad as they prepare for their upcoming match against Crystal Palace.
