Yusuf Dikec, a 51-year-old Turkish shooter, has captured global attention at the Paris Olympics for both his remarkable performance and his distinctive, relaxed style. Competing without the typical eye and ear protection worn by most shooters, Dikec’s casual demeanor and stoic expression earned him comparisons to characters from the movie “Pulp Fiction” and quickly turned him into a social media sensation.
A Historic Win
Dikec, who began his shooting career in 2001 and has competed in every Summer Olympics since 2008, made history by securing Turkey’s first-ever medal in Olympic shooting. Teaming up with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, they won silver in the mixed team 10-meter air pistol event.

Dikec stood out among his fellow competitors by opting for only his prescription glasses and small yellow earplugs, which were nearly invisible in many viral photos. Even the common practice among pistol shooters of firing with their non-shooting hand tucked in a pocket added to Dikec’s laid-back charm.
“I didn’t anticipate such a level of recognition,” Dikec told Turkish media. “Since I shoot with both eyes open, I don’t find the equipment very comfortable.”
Career and Future Plans
Despite finishing 13th in his individual event, Dikec’s Olympic journey is far from over. The seasoned shooter, who is also a seven-time European champion and a 2014 double world champion, plans to compete in the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
“I’m happy with the career I’ve had. It’s not done yet. We keep swinging. I’m not going to give up,” Dikec said.

Dikec has embraced his viral fame, sharing Turkish-language memes about his Olympic photo on his Instagram page. His return home was met with cheers at the Champions Park, where Olympic medalists celebrate with fans.
