Francis Ngannou and Renan Ferreira had a heated face-off at their weigh-in ahead of Saturday’s PFL Super Fights event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, setting the stage for Ngannou’s much-anticipated return to MMA. Ngannou weighed in at 256 pounds, five pounds lighter than Ferreira, who tipped the scales at 261 pounds.
The intensity boiled over as the two heavyweights squared off, with Ngannou pressing his forehead against Ferreira’s, forcing security to intervene. Calm was quickly restored, but Ngannou left no doubt about his mindset, declaring, “I will show him who the king is.”
This marks the first MMA bout for Ngannou, 38, since January 2022, when he successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane. The Cameroonian fighter left the UFC shortly after due to contract disagreements and turned his attention to boxing, where he fought high-profile opponents like Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Ngannou’s MMA record has been stellar, with five knockouts in his last six fights, and he has not suffered a loss in the sport since 2018.
Ferreira, 34, is on a four-fight winning streak and captured the PFL heavyweight title in 2023. The towering Brazilian presents a formidable challenge in what the PFL has billed as the “Battle of the Giants.”
The fight will headline Saturday’s event, with the main card kicking off at 9 p.m. BST, as Ngannou seeks to reclaim his dominance in the MMA arena.
