Switzerland began their Euro 2024 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Hungary at Cologne Stadium. The Swiss team dominated from the start, with Kwadwo Duah scoring his first international goal in the 12th minute after a brilliant pass from Michel Aebischer. Aebischer then doubled the lead just before halftime with a superb strike from 20 yards.
Hungary fought back in the second half, with Barnabas Varga scoring in the 63rd minute off a perfectly-weighted cross from Dominik Szoboszlai. Despite Hungary’s efforts to equalize, Switzerland held firm.
Substitute Breel Embolo secured the win in stoppage time, capitalizing on a defensive error to lob the ball over goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. Embolo’s goal marked a successful return to action following a cruciate ligament injury.
Switzerland’s Granit Xhaka was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding midfield performance, contributing significantly in possession and organizing the team’s play.
With this win, Switzerland sits second in Group A, behind hosts Germany, while Hungary is left looking for their first points in the tournament.
