Spain has secured a spot in the Euro 2024 final after a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory against France in Munich. A stunning performance from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal was the highlight of the match, as he scored a record-breaking goal to help his team advance.
France took the lead when Randal Kolo Muani headed in a perfect cross from Kylian Mbappe. However, Spain equalized with a spectacular goal from Yamal, who curled a 25-yard shot into the net, making him the youngest player to score at a European Championship or World Cup, surpassing the record held by Brazil legend Pelé.
Spain’s momentum continued as Dani Olmo scored the winning goal. Olmo controlled the ball expertly in the box and fired a low shot that deflected off French defender Jules Kounde and into the net. Despite France’s attempts to respond in the second half, they were unable to break down Spain’s defense. Mbappe missed their best chance, firing over the bar in the closing stages.
Luis de la Fuente’s side dominated the game in terms of possession and chances, with young talents like Yamal and Nico Williams leading the charge. Yamal, who also has three assists in the tournament, has been a standout player and will be crucial in the final.
The Spanish team has made history by becoming the first side to win six consecutive games in European Championship history. They will now face the winner of England’s semi-final against the Netherlands in Sunday’s final, aiming to secure their third European Championship title.
De la Fuente praised Yamal, saying, “Lamine is doing things which give hints that he might be a great of sport. But we need to remain prudent. We have to help him by keeping his feet on the ground and developing him in the best way. That means calm and tranquility. In Ancient Rome, when they talked about Caesar, they would say: ‘Remember, he’s mortal!'”
Yamal expressed his excitement, stating, “Getting to the final is really special. I need to help my team and that’s what I tried to do today. I was really happy after the final whistle. It’s a dream come true. When you reach the final, you have to play against the very best. We’ll wait and see who we get.”
