Nigeria’s Super Eagles were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in their 2025 AFCON qualifying match on Tuesday. Despite dominating possession and creating several clear chances, Nigeria could not find a way past Rwanda’s outstanding goalkeeper in a frustrating encounter in Kigali.
After their 3-0 victory over Benin Republic last Saturday, expectations were high for the Super Eagles to continue their winning streak. However, Rwanda’s disciplined defense and the brilliance of their goalkeeper kept Nigeria from converting numerous chances, including efforts from Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface.
Osimhen, who came on as a second-half substitute, saw a header saved in the 94th minute in what could have been the winning goal. Lookman also had several attempts, but each time, the Rwandan goalkeeper proved to be the difference.
Rwanda, although on the back foot for much of the game, managed a few dangerous moments, including a long-range effort in the 87th minute that forced Nigerian goalkeeper Nwabali into a save.
The result leaves Nigeria with four points from their first two matches in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers. The Super Eagles will look to bounce back in their next fixtures as they aim to secure a spot in the tournament.
