Real Madrid announced that they will present their new star signing, Kylian Mbappé, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on July 16. Mbappé, who will wear the No. 9 shirt, joined Madrid on a five-year deal after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired, ending a long pursuit by the LaLiga giants.
The unveiling is expected to draw 81,000 fans to the stadium, making it the largest player presentation since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in 2009.
Mbappé recently participated in the Euro 2024 semifinals, where France was eliminated by Spain. He suffered a broken nose early in the tournament and scored one goal in five appearances. Reflecting on the tournament, Mbappé said, “It was a failure. We had the ambition to be European champions…We aren’t that, so it’s a failure. We have to move on. It’s been a long year. I’m going to go on holiday and get some rest — that’ll do me a lot of good, and I’ll try and come back strongly.”
Real Madrid has not yet confirmed if Mbappé will join their pre-season tour in the United States, which includes matches against AC Milan, Barcelona, and Chelsea, followed by the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on August 14.
Mbappé’s transfer to Madrid was finalized on June 3, concluding one of football’s longest-running transfer sagas. He almost joined Madrid in 2017 before moving to PSG from Monaco and again in 2022 before signing a new deal in Paris. At PSG, he became the club’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals, won six Ligue 1 titles, and was named Ligue 1 Player of the Season five times.
