Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) began their Ligue 1 title defense with a decisive 4-1 victory over Le Havre, in their first competitive match since the departure of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid.
The match started with an early strike from Lee Kang-in, who scored just three minutes into the game, giving PSG an immediate lead. Le Havre equalized shortly after halftime through Gautier Lloris, raising hopes for the home side.
However, PSG’s strength in depth proved too much as the game progressed. Late goals from substitutes Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, and a penalty from Randal Kolo Muani secured the win for the reigning champions. Dembélé and Barcola’s quick succession goals in the final minutes, followed by Kolo Muani’s spot-kick, put the match out of Le Havre’s reach.
PSG’s coach, Luis Enrique, praised his team’s resilience but noted areas for improvement, especially in ball retention and decision-making. The match also featured the debut of Joao Neves, a recent signing from Benfica, who contributed an assist for Dembélé’s goal.
Le Havre showed flashes of potential, including a disallowed goal by Josue Casimir due to a handball, but ultimately couldn’t withstand PSG’s late surge. The victory marks a strong start for PSG as they navigate the post-Mbappé era, with new talent stepping up to fill the void left by their former star.
