Pep Guardiola has been honored as the 2023/24 Barclays Manager of the Season after leading Manchester City to a historic campaign.
Guardiola’s Man City became the first team ever to win four consecutive Premier League titles.
In response to receiving the award, Guardiola expressed his intention to defend it next season but also wished to share the recognition with his fellow nominees who challenged Man City to excel.
“I want to share it, yes, oh yes! Especially with Mikel [Arteta] for the incredible job he has done, pushing us to our limits,” said Guardiola. “Of course, for Jurgen [Klopp], for our unforgettable battles over the years. And Unai Emery, who achieved something remarkable by bringing Aston Villa to the [UEFA] Champions League.”
Guardiola also praised Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth for an impressive first season in the Premier League.
“It is an honor to be alongside all of them and to win this trophy. We will defend this award as best as possible in the future,” he added.
This is Guardiola’s fifth time winning the award, having previously received it in 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, and 2022/23. Only Sir Alex Ferguson has won the accolade more often than Guardiola.
Guardiola’s recognition completes a double for Man City this season, as Phil Foden was named the EA SPORTS Player of the Season.
Guardiola won after votes by the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide who would top a five-man shortlist that also featured Arteta, Emery, Iraola, and Klopp.
Man City will now look to end their campaign by doing a Premier League and FA Cup double. They face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
