Nuri Şahin has been appointed as the new head coach of Borussia Dortmund, following Edin Terzić’s resignation. The 35-year-old former Dortmund player signed a three-year contract and is eager to lead the team to success.
Şahin, who played 274 matches for Dortmund and won the Bundesliga title in 2011, also had stints at Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Werder Bremen. He retired in 2021 after playing for Antalyaspor and returned to Dortmund as an assistant coach in January 2024, where he impressed by helping the team reach the Champions League final.
“It’s a great honour to be the head coach of Borussia Dortmund. I’ll give it all my energy and passion to make this club successful,” Şahin said.
Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, praised Şahin’s natural leadership and expertise, expressing full confidence in his ability to lead the team.
Şahin and the team will start pre-season training on July 10, with a trip to Japan as part of their preparations. They will face Phönix Lübeck in the DFB Cup first round on August 18, before beginning their Bundesliga campaign a week later.
