The NBA is investigating a confrontation involving Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid and Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes after the 76ers’ 124-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. The incident reportedly began when Embiid confronted Hayes over a column criticizing Embiid’s preparation and mentioning his late brother and young son.

Witnesses said Embiid, already frustrated with injury-related absences, approached Hayes and warned, “The next time you bring up my dead brother and my son again, you are going to see what I’m going to do to you.” The exchange escalated until Embiid shoved Hayes, prompting intervention from the team’s public relations chief.

NBA and 76ers officials confirmed they are taking the matter seriously and have initiated an investigation. The league’s spokesperson stated, “We are aware of reports of an incident in the Sixers locker room this evening and are commencing an investigation.”
