Marc Cucurella Responds to Gary Neville After Spain's Euro 2024 Win

Marc Cucurella took a swipe at Gary Neville following Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final. The Chelsea defender was a standout performer throughout the tournament, reminding fans of his impressive form during his time at Brighton before his £55 million transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Earlier in the tournament, Neville had criticized Cucurella, suggesting that his presence in Spain’s defense could jeopardize their chances of winning. Speaking on ITV after Spain’s 3-0 win over Croatia, Neville remarked, “He’s not been convincing at Chelsea. That price tag still astounds everybody. There’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re going to go all the way, and him being at left-back is probably another example.”

Cucurella responded to these comments after Spain’s triumph by reposting Neville’s remarks on Instagram with the caption, “We went all the way Gary. Thanks for your support.” His girlfriend, Claudia Rodriguez, also joined in, sharing a photo of Cucurella celebrating with the trophy and captioning it, “How was your night, @gneville2?”

Spain dominated the tournament, defeating Croatia, Italy, France, Germany, and England on their way to lifting the trophy. Manchester City’s Rodri, who was named Player of the Tournament, praised the team’s achievement, calling it Spain’s biggest success to date. “This is probably the best day of my career,” Rodri said. “We are European champions, as difficult as that is. We have become Europe’s most successful national team.”

Reflecting on Spain’s challenging path to victory, Rodri added, “We got through the toughest draw, and it speaks for the mentality of the team. Many of us were champions at Under-17, Under-19, Under-21 level. Luis de la Fuente knew what he was doing.”

Spain’s victory was sealed with Mikel Oyarzabal’s late goal, set up by a pinpoint cross from Cucurella. This moment, along with Cucurella’s overall performance, silenced his critics and highlighted his crucial role in Spain’s success.
