Manchester United has appointed Ruben Amorim as head coach, marking a significant shift in leadership as the club looks to reshape its future. Amorim, who led Sporting CP to two Portuguese league titles, will officially join United on November 11 after completing his obligations with Sporting. His contract runs through June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year.
The 39-year-old has built a strong reputation for his innovative tactics and ability to develop young talent, making him a top choice for United. Amorim’s appointment comes after Erik ten Hag’s departure, with United management paying Sporting CP €11 million to expedite his release. Notably, Amorim will be the first to hold the title of head coach rather than manager, signaling a modernized approach for the club.
Until Amorim arrives, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead the team. The former United striker’s role beyond November 11 is yet to be confirmed. Amorim’s first match in charge will be against Ipswich Town on November 24.
Amorim’s time at Sporting saw him transform the club, bringing them their first Primeira Liga title in nearly two decades and adding three Portuguese League Cups to his record. Known for his emphasis on tactical discipline and dynamic play, he is expected to reinvigorate United’s performance and foster a distinct, modern playing style.
