Manchester United have successfully secured the transfer of Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in a deal worth up to €60 million (£50.7 million). The agreement includes an initial fee of €50 million (£42.2 million), with an additional €10 million contingent on performance-related bonuses.
Ugarte, who became a key target for United during the summer transfer window, is set to undergo a medical in the UK before completing the move. The 22-year-old midfielder, known for his defensive prowess, led Ligue 1 in tackles last season despite starting only 21 games.
PSG originally signed Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon for €60 million just a year ago. However, with the arrival of new midfield talent, including João Neves from Benfica, PSG was open to letting Ugarte move on. The French champions were pleased with the deal, which not only recoups their investment but also includes a 10% sell-on clause.
For Manchester United, Ugarte’s signing comes after clearing space in their squad with the departures of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley. Ugarte had been keen on joining United, making personal terms easy to finalize.
This transfer marks a significant addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad as they prepare for the upcoming season, with Ugarte expected to bring both skill and stability to United’s midfield.
