Manchester United are close to securing a deal for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, sources told ESPN. The club has reached an agreement over payments related to Zirkzee’s representatives and will now finalize the deal with Bologna.
Zirkzee, 23, has a release clause of £34 million ($43.5 million) in his contract, valid until August, but United may negotiate a different arrangement. The Dutch forward, who attracted interest from AC Milan, is currently with the Netherlands squad preparing for their Euro 2024 semifinal against England.
Zirkzee emerged as United’s preferred striker target after considering Lille’s Jonathan David and Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Chelsea also showed interest in David, who has one year left on his Lille contract and is available for around £25 million.
Last season, Zirkzee scored 12 goals for Bologna, helping the team finish fifth in Serie A and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the modern era.
