Liverpool secured a commanding 5-1 victory over West Ham United in the Carabao Cup third round, with Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo each scoring twice at Anfield.
West Ham took an early lead when Wataru Endo’s clearance deflected off Jarell Quansah for an own goal. However, Liverpool responded swiftly as Jota headed in a rebound from Federico Chiesa’s acrobatic effort.
In the second half, Jota put the Reds ahead after receiving a clever pass from Curtis Jones. Mohamed Salah extended the lead by pouncing on a rebound from Alexis Mac Allister’s shot. West Ham’s hopes faded when Edson Álvarez was sent off in the 76th minute, and Gakpo struck twice in the dying moments to complete the rout.
Despite several fine saves from West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, the Hammers couldn’t stop Liverpool’s relentless attack. Liverpool, last season’s League Cup champions, now move into the fourth round with confidence, keeping their impressive form alive under new manager Arne Slot.
