Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface will miss the team’s UEFA Champions League match against Stade Brest on Wednesday after being involved in a car accident. The 23-year-old Nigerian forward was a passenger in a Mercedes that collided with a truck on the A3 highway in Germany on Sunday.
Although the vehicle was severely damaged, Boniface escaped with minor injuries, including cuts to his arm. Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, confirmed that while Boniface was fortunate to avoid serious harm, he is not ready to return to the squad just yet. “It’s not an easy experience, and he needs time to recover mentally,” Rolfes said.
Boniface has been a key player for Leverkusen this season, scoring seven goals in 10 appearances. His absence means Czech striker Patrik Schick is expected to lead the attack in the Champions League fixture.
