Leão Shines with Brace but Milan’s Defense Falters in 3-3 Thriller at Cagliari

cagliari vs milan

AC Milan’s high-stakes encounter with Cagliari ended in a gripping 3-3 draw, with Rafael Leão scoring twice but Milan unable to secure victory due to late defensive lapses. This draw leaves Milan in seventh place with 18 points, seven behind leaders Napoli.

Cagliari opened the scoring within two minutes, with Nadir Zortea volleying past Milan’s Mike Maignan after a corner. Milan quickly responded, as Leão expertly lobbed Cagliari’s Alen Sherri in the 15th minute, equalizing for the Rossoneri. Leão struck again before halftime, racing past Sherri to score into an empty net, giving Milan a 2-1 lead.

The second half, however, saw Milan’s defense unravel. Gabriele Zappa leveled the score in the 53rd minute following a poor backpass. Substitute Tammy Abraham restored Milan’s lead in the 69th minute, tapping in after Sherri saved Christian Pulisic’s attempt. But Milan’s defensive woes continued, and Zappa struck again in the 89th minute, volleying a cross into the top corner to equalize.

Milan’s missed chances and defensive errors led to a disappointing result, with manager Paulo Fonseca acknowledging the need for defensive improvement. Meanwhile, Zappa’s double for Cagliari secured them a valuable point, leaving the hosts in 16th place with 10 points.
