French footballer Kylian Mbappé is under investigation in Sweden following an allegation of rape during his visit to Stockholm in early October. Swedish media outlets Aftonbladet and Expressen have reported that Mbappé is “reasonably suspected” of involvement in the incident, which allegedly took place at a central Stockholm hotel on October 10. The Swedish prosecutor’s office confirmed that a complaint has been filed, though no suspects have been officially named.
Mbappé, who was in the Swedish capital recovering from a thigh injury while his team played in the Nations League, strongly denied the claims, calling them “fake news” in a social media post. His representatives also issued a statement condemning the rumors as “completely false and irresponsible,” and vowed to take legal action to clear his name.
No formal charges have been brought against Mbappé, and authorities have stated that the current level of suspicion does not warrant an arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
