Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, received a standing ovation at Wimbledon on Sunday during her first public appearance at the tournament this year. She was there to watch Carlos Alcaraz defeat Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final and to present the trophies.
The Princess, who has been undergoing chemotherapy, made her second public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March. She was accompanied by her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and her sister, Pippa Matthews, in the Royal Box.
Kate wore a purple dress, one of Wimbledon’s official colors. She greeted attendees, including 2021 U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu and other young British tennis players.
The Royal Box was filled with celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Benedict Cumberbatch, and former Wimbledon champions Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, and Chris Evert.
Prince William, who is patron of the Football Association, was absent as he was in Berlin to support England’s team in the European Cup football final against Spain.
Kate has been the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club since 2016, and her presence at Wimbledon was a highlight of the event, marking her continued commitment to her royal duties despite her health challenges.
