Jermaine Jenas, a former footballer and prominent BBC presenter, has been removed from his roles on “The One Show” and “Match of the Day” following allegations of inappropriate behavior towards junior staff members. The BBC confirmed the decision after an internal investigation into complaints about Jenas’ conduct, particularly related to digital communications that were deemed unprofessional.
Jenas, 41, who had been a regular face on BBC programming for a decade, first joined “Match of the Day” as a pundit and later became a co-host of “The One Show” in 2020. The allegations surfaced a few weeks ago, leading to an immediate investigation by the BBC, which resulted in the termination of his contract.
A BBC spokesperson stated, “Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up. We take all allegations of inappropriate behavior seriously and act accordingly.” The specifics of the allegations have not been fully disclosed, but sources suggest that the communications in question were alarming enough to prompt swift action from the corporation.
In response to his dismissal, Jenas hinted at a legal battle, stating that there are “two sides to every story” and that his lawyers would be handling the matter. During a brief interview with talkSport, where he also works as a presenter, Jenas expressed frustration but refrained from discussing details, citing ongoing legal considerations.
Jenas, who also works with TNT Sports, saw his profile removed from his agent’s website shortly after the news broke. TNT Sports has not commented on the matter, and Jenas’ future with the network remains uncertain.
The allegations against Jenas mark a significant fall from grace for the former footballer, who had transitioned successfully into a media career following his retirement from professional football in 2016. Known for his work with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest, as well as earning 21 caps for England, Jenas was a respected figure in both football and broadcasting.
Jenas has also been involved in charitable work, co-founding the Aquinas Foundation to support young people in schools across Nottingham. Despite the current controversy, he received an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University in December 2023 for his contributions to sport and the community.
As the situation continues to unfold, Jenas’ future in broadcasting remains in jeopardy, with the BBC and other networks likely to distance themselves until the allegations are fully addressed.
