Jannik Sinner Outplays Matteo Berrettini to Reach Wimbledon Third Round

Jannik Sinner defeated Matteo Berrettini in a tense, high-quality match at Wimbledon, winning 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), 2-6, 7-6 (4). The world No. 1 Italian displayed exceptional skill in three tie-breaks to overcome his compatriot and friend, Berrettini, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2021.

Despite Berrettini’s strong serve and forehand, Sinner’s superior defense, return of serve, and backhand made the difference. After losing the third set and falling behind in the fourth, Sinner regrouped and dominated the tie-break to secure his victory.

Sinner praised Berrettini, acknowledging their friendship and the tough nature of the match. He remains determined to continue his strong performance on grass, aiming to add to his Grand Slam count.

In other matches, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Fabio Fognini advanced to the third round, with Alcaraz set to face Frances Tiafoe next.
