James Rodriguez has made a triumphant return to Europe, signing with LaLiga side Rayo Vallecano on a one-year contract. The 33-year-old Colombian midfielder, who dazzled at the 2024 Copa America with his playmaking abilities, left Brazilian club Sao Paulo at the end of August to seek a new challenge in Europe.
Rodriguez’s performances at the Copa America were nothing short of exceptional, earning him the prestigious Player of the Tournament award. He set a new tournament record with six assists and created more scoring opportunities than any other player, guiding Colombia to the final, where they narrowly lost to Argentina.
Having previously spent six years at Real Madrid, Rodriguez returns to the Spanish capital with Rayo Vallecano, a team that narrowly escaped relegation last season. His contract with Rayo includes an option for a one-year extension. The team has started the LaLiga season positively, securing four points from their first two matches and is preparing to face Barcelona in their upcoming fixture.
