Venezuela secured the top spot in Group B of the Copa América by defeating Jamaica 3-0 in Arlington, Texas. Goals from Eduard Bello, Salomon Rondon, and Eric Ramirez ensured Venezuela’s victory and set up a quarterfinal clash with Canada.
Venezuela, already assured of a place in the last eight after wins over Ecuador and Mexico, needed just a point to avoid facing defending champions Argentina. Bello opened the scoring in the 49th minute with a powerful header, followed by Rondon’s scuffed effort seven minutes later, marking his 43rd international goal and extending his record as Venezuela’s highest scorer. Ramirez sealed the win in the 85th minute with a breakaway goal.
Jamaica, already eliminated, had their best chance in the 21st minute, but Renaldo Cephas’ diving header went over the bar.
Ecuador also advanced to the quarterfinals as Group B runners-up after a 0-0 draw with Mexico, progressing due to their superior goal difference.
