Free agent center Isaiah Hartenstein has signed a three-year, $87 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, leaving the New York Knicks.
Hartenstein, 26, had a breakout season with the Knicks, averaging 7.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He stepped up as the starting center after Mitchell Robinson’s injury, playing 75 games and shooting 64.4% from the field. His defensive skills shone, with over 85 blocks and 85 steals, and holding opponents to below 53% shooting at the rim.
Having previously played for the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and LA Clippers, Hartenstein’s move to the Thunder brings a new opportunity. Due to only holding early Bird rights, the Knicks could only offer him a four-year, $72.5 million contract.
The Thunder also secured long-term deals with Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins, extending their contracts for $48 million over four years and $47 million over five years, respectively.
