President Bola Tinubu has shared his thoughts on the Super Eagles’ performance in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He expressed that he wasn’t too impressed with their group stage matches and urged them to do better in the upcoming stages of the tournament.
The message from Tinubu was conveyed by the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, during a virtual meeting with the players in Abidjan. Enoh mentioned that the President acknowledged the team’s qualification but emphasized the need for improvement.
Enoh shared, “The President said I should tell the players that he wasn’t too impressed with the last match, but he believes they will step up now that they are past the group stages. He’s been watching your matches and understands the cautious approach in the group stage. He expects a more impressive performance from now on.”
Team captain, Ahmed Musa, thanked the sports minister for the message and took the opportunity to invite the President to attend their matches in person, believing it would motivate the players.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the last 16 of the tournament on Saturday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
