Germany Secures 2-1 Comeback Win Over Greece in Final Euro 2024 Warm-Up

Germany had to come from behind to clinch a 2-1 victory over Greece in their final warm-up match ahead of Euro 2024. Pascal Gross scored the winning goal in the 89th minute, highlighting that the team still has areas to improve before their tournament opener against Scotland on June 14.

The first half was marred by errors and lackluster play from Germany, allowing Greece to dominate early on. Greek forward Christos Tzolis had a double effort blocked by German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the sixth minute. However, Neuer couldn’t hold onto a shot from Tzolis in the 33rd minute, leading to Giorgos Masouras tapping in the rebound for Greece’s lead.

Germany’s Kai Havertz had a goal disallowed for offside in the 43rd minute but redeemed himself in the second half, equalizing in the 55th minute with a deflected shot. Despite some close calls, including a Greek counter-attack and a shot from Benjamin Henrichs that hit the crossbar, Germany pressed higher and dominated possession.

Pascal Gross secured the win with a long-range effort in the closing minutes, giving German fans some relief ahead of the Euros. Coach Julian Nagelsmann acknowledged the team’s need for improvement, particularly in avoiding the possession errors seen in the first half. He emphasized the importance of preparing well for their opening match against Scotland.

Germany also faces Hungary and Switzerland in their Euro Group A fixtures.
