Italian football icon Francesco Totti has hinted at a surprising return to Serie A, despite being retired for seven years. At 48 years old, the AS Roma legend revealed that several top-flight clubs have approached him about making a comeback, an idea that, while “crazy,” has piqued his interest.
“There have been calls from Serie A teams,” Totti said in an interview. “It’s a bit mad, but it made me think. In life, you never say never. With a couple of months of training, I think I could still compete.”
Totti, who spent his entire career with Roma, scoring 307 goals in 786 appearances, insists that he could be match-ready in just two to three months. “I still play, even at 48. I could handle 20-30 minutes on the pitch.”
However, he quickly dismissed the idea of joining Lazio, Roma’s fierce rival. “Lazio? I wouldn’t even consider it,” he said. “If I were to return, it would definitely be in Italy, not abroad.”
Totti also reflected on his 2017 retirement, saying it wasn’t entirely his decision. “When you turn the page, you don’t always know what’s next. I didn’t want to retire, so that part of me still feels unfinished.”
While Totti didn’t disclose which clubs contacted him, the possibility of seeing one of Italy’s greatest players back on the field, even briefly, has sparked excitement among fans. For now, Totti remains a symbol of loyalty and skill in Italian football, with his legacy firmly anchored at Roma.
