Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday evening after a minor car crash, facing charges for driving under the influence (DUI) and illegal possession of firearms while intoxicated.
Police responded to the accident around 5 p.m. involving Cutler’s Dodge Ram and another vehicle. The other driver reported that Cutler rear-ended his car and allegedly attempted to offer him $2,000 to avoid calling the police. Cutler denied trying to flee the scene.
During the investigation, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol and noted that Cutler had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He refused field sobriety tests and was taken to a local hospital for a blood test under a search warrant. A search of his truck revealed two firearms, including a loaded Glock pistol.
Cutler was charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail but released on a $5,000 bond after a few hours.
The former quarterback, who played 12 seasons in the NFL for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins, was known for his strong arm and led the Bears as their all-time passing leader.
