Reports suggesting that Michael Schumacher attended his daughter Gina’s wedding in Majorca have sparked skepticism, with a top neurosurgeon casting doubt on the F1 legend’s ability to make a public appearance due to his fragile condition.
The wedding, held at the Schumacher family’s villa, reportedly included strict privacy measures, with guests required to hand over their mobile phones to prevent photos of Schumacher from being taken. However, Schumacher, 55, has not been seen in public since a skiing accident in 2013 that resulted in severe brain injuries, leaving him under constant care.
Dr. Jussi Posti, head of neurosurgery and traumatic brain injury at Turku University Hospital in Finland, questioned whether Schumacher could attend such an event given the limited public information on his health.
“If a hospital environment has been established in his home, and he remains under continuous medical care, it suggests that he’s been bedridden for much of this time,” Posti said. “Most long-term patients with severe brain injuries develop significant physical limitations, making it difficult to leave their beds after many years.”
Schumacher’s condition has been closely guarded by his family, with only a handful of people allowed to visit him since his accident in the French Alps over a decade ago. His wife, Corinna, has overseen his care, and updates about his health have been scarce.
Posti further explained that significant recovery after such an injury typically occurs within the first two years, after which progress slows. “The fact that so few details have emerged over the years suggests that his condition has likely remained the same since then,” he added.
If Schumacher did attend the wedding, it would mark his first public appearance in 11 years, though no photos have surfaced to confirm the reports. Fans and the media continue to speculate about the former racing champion’s well-being, but without official confirmation, uncertainty lingers.
The Schumacher family has remained steadfast in maintaining his privacy, leaving supporters with little insight into his current condition.
