Columbus Crew Tops Nashville SC for Third Straight Win

Columbus Crew secured a 2-0 victory over Nashville SC at Lower.com Field, extending their winning streak to three games.

Christian Ramirez opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a header from the center of the box, following a pass from Cucho Hernandez. Despite a video review suggesting the ball had crossed the line earlier, the goal stood. Diego Rossi sealed the win with his sixth goal of the season in the 65th minute, assisted by Hernandez, who now has eight goal contributions (four goals, four assists) in the last three matches.

Hernandez played a pivotal role, assisting on both goals and nearly scoring himself in the 43rd minute when his shot hit the crossbar. Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte made three saves, earning his sixth shutout of the season. Nashville, under interim coach Rumba Munthali, lost for the first time in five away matches (2W-1L-2D). Tyler Boyd had a goal nullified early in the second half due to a handball.

Forster Ajago made his debut start for Nashville SC, playing the full match and contributing to several scoring chances, including a disallowed goal. Joey Skinner, a Nashville defender, made his MLS debut, coming on as a substitute in the 87th minute.

Nashville SC announced that B.J. Callaghan, assistant coach to Gregg Berhalter on the U.S. Men’s National Team, will replace Gary Smith as head coach. Callaghan will join the team on July 22. Nashville SC continues their road trip, facing the Portland Timbers at Providence Park on Sunday, July 7 at 9:30 p.m. CT.
