Manchester United is set to appoint Christopher Vivell, former Chelsea technical director, as their new Director of Recruitment to enhance their transfer strategy.
Vivell, who left Chelsea in July 2023 after a brief seven-month tenure, brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles with the Red Bull group in Salzburg and Leipzig. He will initially join United on a short-term basis to assist during the current transfer window, with the possibility of a longer-term role as the club seeks to bolster its football leadership and recruitment departments.
Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed the news, stating, “It’s a DONE DEAL: Christopher Vivell is set to join Manchester United with immediate effect as their new Director of Recruitment, pending a work permit.”
This appointment aligns with United’s recent hiring of Dan Ashworth as Sporting Director. Vivell, Ashworth, and United’s Technical Director Jason Wilcox will collaborate closely in the coming weeks to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Vivell’s addition is part of a broader strategy by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has been bringing in various experts behind the scenes since his arrival. Vivell’s experience working in a multi-club model will be valuable as United continues to develop under the INEOS ownership.
The club hopes that Vivell’s expertise in recruitment will address long-standing issues and improve their transfer strategy moving forward.
