Chelsea is set to sign Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after agreeing to a £30 million ($38m) fee. The 25-year-old is expected to undergo a medical soon and has agreed in principle to a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2030.
Initially, Brighton was close to finalizing a cash-plus-player deal for Dewsbury-Hall, involving Poland midfielder Jakub Moder. However, those talks fell through when Dewsbury-Hall expressed a preference for moving to London after Chelsea showed interest.
The move will reunite Dewsbury-Hall with his former Leicester boss, Enzo Maresca, who begins his tenure as Chelsea’s manager on Monday. Dewsbury-Hall played a significant role in Leicester’s Championship-winning season under Maresca, starting 41 out of 46 games, scoring 12 goals, and registering 14 assists.
This transfer will help Leicester meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), although full compliance remains to be seen. Additionally, a separate deal is being finalized for 18-year-old Chelsea academy graduate Michael Golding to join Leicester. Golding made his professional debut in the FA Cup victory over Preston last season.
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s new manager, will host his former club, Manchester City, in his first Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on August 18. Maresca, who previously coached under Pep Guardiola at City, replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. The Blues have a challenging schedule, including matches against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham in the coming months.
