Chelsea Signs Teenage Striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona

Chelsea has signed 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona, meeting his €6 million ($6.4 million) release clause. Guiu joins the Premier League side after deciding to leave Barça, where he had one year left on his contract. Other European clubs were also interested, but Chelsea’s plan for him to join the first-team squad influenced his decision.

Guiu, who joined Barça at age seven, scored 23 seconds into his first-team debut and also netted in a Champions League match. Despite his talent, he often found himself behind star striker Robert Lewandowski and ended last season with Barça’s B team, scoring six goals in 16 appearances.

Expressing excitement about his move, Guiu said, “Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League and be successful in England. Now I have the opportunity to join Chelsea and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.” He aims to adapt quickly, help the team by scoring goals, and become the best center forward in the world.

Guiu’s former coach described him as “a pure center forward, a classic nine” with physical power, speed, and clinical finishing. Guiu himself emphasized his goal-scoring ability, work ethic, and team-first mentality.

Guiu becomes Chelsea’s fourth summer signing, joining Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian, and Omari Kellyman. He cited the club’s exciting football project and the trust shown in him as key reasons for his move. He also expressed confidence in new head coach Enzo Maresca, praising his managerial skills and vision for the team.
