Chelsea are in advanced negotiations to sign Barcelona’s young striker Marc Guiu, multiple sources have confirmed. The Premier League club is willing to pay Guiu’s €6 million ($5 million) release clause, putting them in the lead to secure his transfer.
Guiu, who has had a breakthrough season at Barcelona, scored just 23 seconds into his first-team debut and also netted in a Champions League match against Antwerp. Despite his impressive start, he ended the season playing for Barcelona’s B team, scoring six goals in 16 appearances.
Barcelona has struggled to extend Guiu’s contract, which expires in 2025, and sources suggest the club may make a final attempt to keep the 18-year-old forward. However, Chelsea’s offer to incorporate him directly into the first team, rather than sending him out on loan, is a significant draw.
While Bayern Munich and Sevilla have also shown interest, Chelsea’s proposal appears most attractive to Guiu. His decision is expected this week, potentially marking the end of his 11-year tenure with Barcelona.
Club insiders at Barcelona regret exposing Guiu to first-team action without securing a longer contract with a higher release clause. In contrast, other young talents like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí have signed contracts with much higher clauses, ensuring their retention.
If Guiu joins Chelsea, he will be the latest addition to their squad as they look to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
