Nicolas Kuhn’s stellar performance helped Celtic secure a crucial 3-1 comeback victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, earning the Scottish champions their second home win in the competition. Kuhn, a former Leipzig academy player, was instrumental in the victory, netting twice to lift Celtic to seven points and keep their progression hopes alive, while Leipzig remain winless with zero points after four matches.
RB Leipzig took an early lead in the 23rd minute when Christoph Baumgartner headed in from close range after a corner deflected off Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers. However, Celtic found their stride and leveled in the 35th minute as Kuhn curled a brilliant shot from outside the box that clipped the post before going in. Kuhn struck again just before halftime, tapping in Greg Taylor’s cross to put Celtic ahead and send the Parkhead crowd into celebration.
Reo Hatate capped off the win in the 72nd minute, taking advantage of a mistake by Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi, who fumbled Alistair Johnston’s cross, allowing Hatate to slot in from close range. Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, celebrating his 38th birthday, made key saves to preserve Celtic’s lead as Leipzig pressed to equalize after the break, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
Celtic, now sitting 13th in the league phase standings, will look to continue their strong form as they aim for the Champions League knockout stages, while RB Leipzig’s hopes of advancing are quickly fading with four consecutive losses.
