Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the China Open final after defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, in an 88-minute semi-final match. The world number three overcame a challenging first set that saw both players struggle to hold serve but ultimately broke Medvedev in the 10th game before securing the set. Medvedev required two medical timeouts for his left leg during the second set as Alcaraz gained control and sealed victory with his fourth match point.
Alcaraz’s win marks his eighth consecutive victory since his unexpected second-round loss at the US Open. Reflecting on the match, he acknowledged his lapse in focus but expressed satisfaction with his recovery, allowing him to maintain momentum.
In the final, Alcaraz will face world number one Jannik Sinner, who earned his spot with a straight-set win over Chinese wildcard Bu Yunchaokete. The Italian has been in outstanding form, winning 14 successive matches since August, including his triumph at the US Open and extending his unbeaten run against players outside the world’s top 20 to 50 matches. Sinner, who is aiming for his seventh ATP Tour title in 2024, will be looking to continue his dominance in the final.
