Bronny James has signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, ensuring the first father-son duo in NBA history will play together next season. The contract starts at $1,157,143 in 2024-25 and includes a team option for the fourth year. This deal comes on the same day LeBron James agreed to an extension with the team.
Bronny, selected 55th in the 2024 NBA Draft, had an average freshman year at USC, posting 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He attributed his lower performance to a heart procedure he underwent last summer.
Lakers’ GM Rob Pelinka and coach JJ Redick praised Bronny’s mindset and potential, stating his role in the team’s revamped player development program. Redick highlighted Bronny’s athleticism, defensive skills, and shooting ability, making him a key player for the Lakers’ future.
Bronny expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the pressure of playing alongside his famous father but remaining confident in his abilities. He will make his summer league debut on Saturday in San Francisco against the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers’ roster now stands at 15 players, the maximum allowed by the NBA.
